The HYPER initiative will develop next-generation propulsion and communication technologies that represent a leap forward from the current hyperloop development.
Vacuum tube transport was conceived more than 100 years ago as a means of achieving very high speed land transport and efficient intercity travel. An early version was prototyped in 1909 by Boris Weinberg, a Russian professor who built a model of the proposed system at the Tomsk Polytechnic and published the concept in 1914 in a book, “Frictionless Motion (Airless Electric Road)”.
Three companies are now driving forward the exciting and innovative Hyperloop project. Initially proposed by SITAEL and TransPod Italy, the latter later withdrew from the incentives. In July 2022, following a corporate spin-off of SITAEL, two new players joined the initiative: A4F, bringing expertise in electronic, digital, and IoT solutions, and VAIMOO, focusing on sustainable mobility. Together, they’re shaping the future of transportation with a bold, cutting-edge vision.
HYPERLOOP is an open-source hardware technology for the high-speed transport of goods and passengers (about 1,000km/h). The transport infrastructure consists of two parallel tubes, resting on pylons, inside which a carbon-fibre capsule, called a POD, slides without contact along a rail, thanks to the principle of magnetic levitation. The capsules are moved by a complex traction system, consisting of linear induction motors and air compressors. HYPERLOOP, which will be almost twice as fast as an aircraft, is set to join trains, planes, cars and ships to become the “fifth means of transport”. The route in which it will move will be dotted with solar panels that will have the task of storing electricity in batteries.
