Design, implementation and testing of an innovative power transmission system to power the PODs of a state-of-the-art transport system based on Hyperloop technology.
The technical solution for transferring power to the Pod via a plasma bridge involves R&D in order to validate some particularly critical aspects of the system:
– effective transferable current density: given the levels of current density to be transferred, the working area will probably be that of hot arcs.
– stability of the plasma in an air flow and effective ability to keep a plasma attached to the electrodes at high speed, in view of the maximum speed envisaged of 1000 km/h for this transport system.
– evaluation of the erosion of the electrodes and hence the service life of these components, in order to be able to assess the operating costs of the transport system.
